Povilas Syrrist-Gelgota (1976)

is described as charismatic and multitalented artist - singing violist, concert host, composer, organizer of international music projects.
and teacher He has played concerts in 30 countries. 
Povilas is an unusual artist. He plays viola, sings and sings while he plays viola. 
In his concerts audience can experience programs consisting of music, visual art, poetry or philosophical texts.

Povilas is:
a board member of Norwegian Viola Society,
a member of The Norwegian Society of Soloists,
Artistic Director of "Viola Days in Asker"
Artistic Director of concert series “Toner og Tanker på Malerhjemmet”,
instructor of International Viola Academy,
a member of Lithuanian Musicians Union,
a member of NOPA - Norwegian Society of Composers and Lyricists,
former Artistic Director of Asker Chamber Music festival.

After his studies in Vilnius, Paris, London and Oslo won Povilas audition to Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra It gave him possibility to work with very high professional level colleagues, soloists and conductors.

In the same time  was Povilas also very active as soloist, chamber musician and composer.
For two decades he promote  viola as solo instrument playing hundreds of solo concerts and combining in his programs  classical, new and folk music, as well as his own compositions in folk romantic style.
Round 50 compositions were composed for and performed by Povilas and his chamber groups.

Povilas himself contributed to viola repertoire with over 30 compositions for viola.
Povilas is very active promoting Norwegian Music in Lithuania. He has received a medal from Lithuanian Embassy in Norway for his contribution in building cultural bridges between Norway and Lithuania.
