XU Yi   composer

Xu Yi born in Nanjing, studied Erhu (Chinese violin) and composition at the Conservatory of Shanghai, establishment in which she became a professor at the age of 22. She was the most young composer from the “New Wave” composers in the 80s in China.

Xu Yi continued his composition studies in France, followed the composition course and of computer music at Ircam (1990-1991), then Gérard Grisey's class at the CNSMD in Paris (first prize in 1994). She is the first composer of Chinese origin to reside at the Villa Medici (1996-1998). She became a composition professor at the CRR of Cergy Pontoise (2001-2003). She currently lives in France while maintaining a close link with China, where she is a guest professor at the Shanghai Conservatory (2005-2010) and Wuhan. She was also invited to give master classes in several national conservatories and universities such as France, China, Switzerland and the USA.

His work Le Plein du Vide was selected by the Ministry of National Education as the BAC test for 2006 and 2007.

In his music and in his life, the East and the West, tradition and modernity, nature and technology coexist.
